His manifesto might have been compelling, but the allure of that fried potato highlighted America’s number one killer: fast food. It’s a miracle anyone can pay their medical bills after a lifetime of McNuggets and McFlurries.

McDonald’s has spread its influence beyond expanding waistlines and skyrocketing cholesterol. The fast-food behemoth has been blamed for turning family-owned eateries into endangered species. Once, charming diners and mom-and-pop shops offered menus with personality and a side of heart. Now, Big Macs have homogenized these places, leaving Main Streets with nothing but stray tumbleweeds and discarded Happy Meal toys.
